The 5 Core “Must Haves” to Build Your Business Online…
We now have access to an incredible amount of information. There is no wonder that we sometimes miss the forest for the ‘virtual’ trees. The feeling of overwhelm stops you in your tracks. It would be so nice just to have someone tell you exactly what you needed to do and how to successfully build an online business.
In the beginning you will make all the classic mistakes. You are taking in so much information that at every turn you think you have to have the “next best thing”. When you are caught up in the ‘shiny ball’ syndrome you go all-in on software, strategies, tips and super-saiyan ninja tactics.
You know that these things will make all your business and financial dreams come true.
Until they don’t…
After years of struggle and failure I have come to know that there are 5 core “Must Haves” to build your business online.
The 5 Core Must Haves to Build Your Business Online
Core Must Have #1 – Website
You need a website. Your website serves as your online home. It is the foundation of your virtual empire and the place where your brand lives.
When visitors come to your website it is the equivalent of your digital “first impression”. It tells the world who you are and that you are a real business. It displays your business personality.
There are a variety of platforms that you can use, multiple pages you can include and different themes available to you.
Here at The Fresh Entrepreneur we use Kalatu Premium featuring the Red Type theme. Kalatu Premium is on the WordPress platform and is a plug and go website offering a host of different themes.
I have 4 primary pages on my website, one of which is my blog (see “Core Must Have #2 below). By placing widgets on my page (see “Core Must Have #4 below) I make it easy to connect with me on social media.
Core Must Have #2 – Blog
What you are reading right now is a blog post…on my website!
See how that works!
I wrote this blog post and used it to invite you to my website, the very same website where you can find out a little bit more about me and my company, read other blog posts, connect with me and check out my company’s products and services.
In today’s online marketing world content is king and the way to win is to provide exceptional value before any expected return.
Please don’t misunderstand. I am not saying don’t sell your products and services. What I am saying is you should ALWAYS lead with value and build rapport and trust. Sales of your products and services will come once trust has been established.
Core Must Have #3 – Your Personal Brand
In the real life world what does your brand look like? How do you dress? Are you GQ or Boho? How do you wear your hair? Are you funny and lighthearted or serious?
All of these things work hand-in-hand to form an “impression” of you. That is your brand!
It’s no different online. Successful people pay for professional logos, banners and themes for their websites. People will see the images and words you use (wherever you are online) and will create their impression of you and your company.
When people come to your website it has to look good or they are gone!
Core Must Have #4 – Social Media
If you haven’t been living under a rock, by now you should be well aware that social media is the single biggest thing to happen in the online world in the past decade.
Your customers are on social media. So are your competitors and they are talking to those customers. Either you have to talk to them right now or they won’t be your customers for long.
So make it easy for your customers to connect with you on social media by placing widgets on your page for Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Google+, Linkedin, or whatever social media platform you want exposure on.
Core Must Have #5 – An Email List
Oh yeah, email marketing is still one of the most cost effective ways to stay in touch with customers and reach new prospects.
Email marketing provides the greatest ROI of any online marketing tool. Your email list represents the only true customer-related marketing asset you really own.
Think about the number of emails you receive on a daily basis. Each email represents a lists you are currently on.
Social media is where you build rapport with people so they get to know, like and trust you. E-mail is where they buy from you.

I’m sure you’ll think I’m nuts when I say this but…having all the 5 Core Must Haves to build your business online is one thing. But the most important thing is to have something to sell, that people want to buy at a price they are willing to pay!
I hope you found something of value here that you can apply to your business. I would love for you to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
