Napping changes your brain and makes you more creative.
Heck! And I though it was only me getting up in age. Not so, says a Lifehack.org article.
When I first started working on my internet business and no one was around to help and I got stumped, I would turn the computer off and take a nap. If I got too frustrated and tapped the computer too hard then I would be out of business. LOL! Then I thought it was just because I was a senior citizen at the time.
Seems there is scientific evidence that napping has good benefits like better heart health, increased hormonal maintenance and cell repair.
Researchers tracked 23,681 Greek men for six years. Those that napped three times a week had a 37% reduced risk of dying from heart disease.
Here are seven napping tips.
1. Keep napping time to 20 minutes or greater than 90 minutes.
2. Nap in a quiet, well ventilated room.
3. Clear your mind, breath slow and deeply to switch off and relax.
4. If at work, get permission.
5. Best to nap 6-8 hours after your normal wake up time.
6. Shift workers need to take a afternoon nap to stay alert at night.
7. Naps are used to recharge, refresh and reinvigorate the body and the mind.
There is now a cultural shift. Some high profile corporations have recognized that for their employees to be more productive they need to recharge ‘while at work’. You might recall some of the names: Google, Pfizer, and Proctor & Gamble. Uncle Sam has sleep breaks built into airline pilots and air traffic controllers schedule.
Dr. Matthew Walker, Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of California said that taking a nap clears out the brains temporary storage space so the brain can process new information.
Loved the way the Doc finished explaining the process – The Hippopotamus functions like an email inbox. When it gets full you need to sleep in order for it to clear out. If you don’t sleep the email box will be too full to accept more emails or information.
Then there are times you didn’t take your nap and you know you should have.
And if you had a rough day this should help you on your way! Best to record the music on another device then turn your computer off and the light off.
Insomniacs and people who suffer from depression can’t sleep. Is it a case there they can’t sleep because of problems or the fact that when they sleep they don’t want to wake up and face their problems? Life is full of challenges, if you don’t like your situation, then find another solution. Find another job or start your own business. And if you need help talk to someone. Having good reasons is a good way to live – it helps during hard times!
